Raven Kauffman, Rara Avis

“I was always told to set fashion rather than follow it,” Raven Kauffman told us at a trunk show at Des Kohan in L.A. a couple of weeks ago. “Growing up I was never in style, but now I think people are catching on.” She’s right about that. Lake Bell accessorized her Rag & Bone tux with one of Kauffman’s Raven Noir evening bags at the Met ball on Monday. The designer’s Rara Avis collection is painstakingly handcrafted in Italy and features tactile elements such as etched leather, natural feathers, peacock-inspired grilles, and semiprecious stone closures. Our favorite is this wristlet. Speaking of the Costume Institute, it would’ve been the perfect finishing touch for Natalia Vodianova’s gorgeous vintage Fortuny.
