The In Crowd Likes The Maidstone Inn

May 19, 2009  4:20 pm

Granted, the best way to weekend in the Hamptons is by scoring a bed from a friend with a house. But if those invitations are in short supply this season, you might consider booking a room at the Maidstone. The flagship American property of Swedish company c/o Hotels, the 19-room c/o the Maidstone opens this weekend, taking over an East Hampton inn that dates back to the 1700’s. “We want our guests to feel like they’re living with friends when they stay with us,” explains c/o Hotels owner and creative director Jenny Ljungberg, who has nicknamed the Maidstone’s renovated aesthetic “Scandinavian cozy” and put slow-food restaurant the Living Room on the ground floor. Check in, and chances are you’ll run into some familiars—on the 22nd, Alec Baldwin is hosting a screening at the hotel; two days later, the Watermill Center benefit kicks off at the Maidstone with a cocktail party hosted by, among others, Amanda Hearst, Shamim M. Momin, and Arden Wohl; and a week after that, Donna Karan and Gaby Karan de Felice, Kelly Klein, Haley Binn, and Christie Brinkley set up shop for their “Mommy and Me Tea.” Three makes a trend, in other words, so it’s entirely possible c/o the Maidstone won’t have any free rooms at all. In which case, you might just have to sleep on the beach.
