A Bat For Lashes Concert For Lucky Fans
According to Natasha Khan, a Bat for Lashes gig is typically a pretty epic experience—big band, big sound, big everything. But on Sunday, Khan gave a handful of her West Coast fans a small-scale preview of the Lashes live show, playing a set at the Lucky Brand store on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. The first in a series of nationwide “Neighborhood Socials” planned by Lucky Brand, the event saw Khan joined onstage by one multi-instrumentalizing bandmate and offstage by her boyfriend, Will Lemon III, who had installed the display of hand-painted denim in the window. “This is definitely a stripped-down sound for us,” commented Khan, after wrapping up the set with a rendition of “Daniel,” off her new album Two Suns. “The gig at the El Rey on Tuesday will be a little different. We got, like, a ton of drums…” Also likely to be different: At the El Rey, no one will be passing out free grilled cheese and onion rings when Khan clears the stage. The crowd on Sunday seemed OK with the tradeoff.
