Blasblog: Summer In Soho Means Soirées

Although the trendy neighborhood just below Houston Street isn’t exactly lacking fashion-conscious people, last night’s trio of parties helped draw a bigger crowd than usual. Early in the evening, former New York It girl and current Hollywood power wife Minnie Mortimer Gaghan was hocking her cute, completely wearable wares at a trunk show at Georgia Tapert Living on Broome Street. The collection, pieces of which are named after Manhattan friends like Eleanor Ylvisaker, Devon Schuster, and sister-in-law Tinsley Mortimer, sold well, though the new mother was anxious to get back to the hotel where her infant daughter was waiting for her. No, there’s isn’t a baby line in the works. “I’m too ADD for that,” she said, admitting babies grow too fast to be good fit models. “Besides, if I can’t wear it I’m not into it!” Two blocks up at the Club Monaco store on Prince, Style.com’s own Laird Borrelli-Persson signed copies of her new book The Cocktail Dress for designers like Peter Som, Yigal Azrouël, and Albertus Swanepoel. And later, Louis Vuitton threw a fête for friends and family at its Greene Street store for—now get this—nothing at all. Turns out the French brand didn’t need a reason to host a little soirée, other than to, as the publicists told me, hang out with friends in nice weather. “A party for party’s sake? What a novel idea,” Helen Lee Schifter reasoned.
