Getting In Shape, The Dutch Way

June 26, 2009  1:21 pm

I truly get excited about summer Fridays, but I’d be over the moon if I could go to Holland to see the other Biënnale. Arnhem Mode is organized by my friend Piet Paris. This year’s theme is Shape and features works by labels like Lanvin, Comme des Garçons, and Sandra Backlund. There are dozens of related programs (including a screening of Coco Avant Chanel), and the exhibitions aren’t in whitewashed gallery spaces, either, but spread out across town, the idea being to alter the cityscape/shape. It’s up through July 6, which means I’ve got exactly ten days to hatch my escape plan. If I don’t make it, at least there’s a pretty catalog to console myself with.

  1. It’s really a biĆ«nnale this Arnhem fashion show or more a sell out of the ‘old pieces’ some designers have in their ‘closet’ and wanted to sell them for whatever price. It’s just like the Amsterdam (now) international fashion week nothing weareble it’s only art and very innovative but not weareble for the average woman on the street in whatever city around this world. I wonder actually why the website Trendstop.com never give/gave attention to the Dutch fashion weeks? they give schedules about Berlin and other minor fashion cities but about Dutch (fashion) cities I can’t find any information. Laird I’m sorry but I think that Dutch fashion isn’t interesting enough for most of the fashionistas. Hope you can make it to Arnhem and tell us what your experiences and opinion is/are. Ciao and have a nice weekend my love.
