In The Swim With Posso And Costume Department

As anyone heading to Glastonbury next week ought to know, packing for a music festival is no joke. You’ve got to take your rain gear, your sleep gear, your bug spray, your drugs…as in prescribed drugs, medicine. And then, of course, you shouldn’t forget your one-off collaboration on a collection of swimwear and accessories. That’s the lesson to be taken from Marylouise Pels and Vanessa Giovacchini, the designers and DJs behind the L.A.-based label Posso. Prior to heading up to Coachella this spring, where they were set to spin a few events, the Posso pair found themselves chatting with their friend Shawn Kaleka, of the brand Costume Department. “He threw out this idea, maybe we could make you a special outfit for Coachella,” recalls Giovacchini. “So I texted him back, well, why don’t we do a collaboration? It was really supposed to be, like, an outfit.” Instead, Kaleka and his partner Shaun Samson wound up working with Posso on “Space Safari,” a range of swimsuits, cover-ups, belts, cuffs, and spats that will be available next month via http://www.80spurple.com and on www.possouniverse.com. “We have all these vintage bathing suits we love, and we started with the idea of adapting those old high-waist cuts,” Pels explains. “But then Shaun came up with the idea of the neon netting, which brought along this whole futuristic feel.” Giovacchini and Pels are heading out on tour this summer, so it’s entirely possible that more innovations will come as they plan for that trip. “We do design for our lifestyle,” notes Giovacchini. “Which maybe isn’t the most normal lifestyle.” “But,” adds Pels, “it is normal to us.”

I love the bright neon-ness! Fishnet isn’t something I’d normally consider cute, but this design makes it fun.
