Over-the-Knee Clogs? Believe It.

June 1, 2009  6:28 pm

I used to live below a woman who wore clogs. I know she wore clogs, because she would get up really early in the morning and fuss about the apartment, and this is what I would hear: CLOG, CLOG, CLOG. The clog is the most onomatopoeic shoe in existence. Anyway, get used to that sound. The clog, though it never really went away, is coming back with a vengeance. For summer, the shop Oak, always a good canary in the mine for your more hipster-y trends, is selling classic clogs in a variety of colors; frankly, they look refreshingly clunky, next to all the gladiators and slouchy sandal-boot hybrids. And two intriguing clog adaptations are on the way. Manufactured in collaboration with an old-school Swedish clogmaker, APC’s madras clog sandal arrives in October. And sometime before that, you’ll be able to get your hands on a pair of over-the-knee clog boots from No. 6 (click here to see a video footage of No. 6’s Karin Bereson in action). The brand has been doing steady business on its ankle- and knee-high versions of the boot for a few seasons now—as noted, the clog never really went away—but the over-the-knee clog boot is poised to square the circle on two key fall trends. We report, you decide.
