Sophia Grace, Shoe Designer On The Rise

Given that I spend my days thinking about fashion, I’ve always been disinclined to spend my evening hours on shows like Project Runway. Every so often, though, a friend or relative will call on me for a “professional” opinion of the stuff on TV—is this stuff any good? Well, no; not really. I’m generally unimpressed by the fashion that comes out of fashion competitions. This shoe, pictured, is the exception to that rule. Designed by Sophia Grace, an M.A. candidate in shoe design at Cordwainers at the London College of Fashion, the black patent and neon orange snakeskin stiletto took home the top prize in the first-ever Browns Shoe Awards in the U.K. Grace’s win was announced yesterday, and now she’ll get to see her design produced by the folks who make GINA and stocked at the Browns Shoes boutique later this year.
