The Bride Wore Gunmetal Gray

June 25, 2009  4:50 pm

Who said brides-to-be are only into strapless gowns? If the final looks from Brides’s Operation Dream Dress are any indication, the public is secretly lusting after something with a bit more drama. The magazine asked budding designers nationwide to submit sketches embodying the theme of “visionary romance,” and the five finalists presented their gowns to a panel of experts yesterday and again on Good Morning America this morning. Among the dresses vying for the big prize were a one-shoulder ball gown with a dramatic flower petal train, a body-hugging gunmetal gray look that one judge described as resembling “an upside-down cupcake,” and a medieval-inspired number featuring giant stuffed hearts trailing from gold chains. In the end, the most basic of designs won: Amy Wong Micucci’s draped Grecian column will appear on the cover of the November/December issue of Brides. For my part, I’ll be sticking with a Spring ‘09 Fendi dress when I take my walk down the aisle next week.
