Jaguar To Serpentine: A Wild Night In London

July 10, 2009  12:10 pm

“Was that Jay Leno that just walked by?” asked Matthew Williamson, at launch of the Jaguar XJ at the Saatchi Gallery in Sloane Square. Yes, it was. The die-hard car buff was there alongside Elle Macpherson, Rosamund Pike, Jefferson Hack, and David Gandy to introduce the very English and very sexy new car. Williamson continued the love affair with all things English and chatted about his return to LFW. “We were asked by [BFC chairman] Harold Tillman to come home to celebrate the 25th-year anniversary, and we thought it a great idea,” said Williamson. “Not to say that I won’t come back to New York. It’s a grass-is-greener situation. When I’m away from New York, I think there is no city cooler. But when I’m there, I yearn for London and all its quirkiness.” Williamson’s date, newly appointed Chanel beauty ambassador Poppy Delevingne, stayed true to her new bosses in Chanel makeup and black nail polish. The luxe maquillage was paired, however, with a full Topshop look, down to her feathered stilettos. “In this economic environment, it seems like the prudent thing to do. And it doesn’t really look like Topshop, does it?” said Delevingne before fluttering off to the Serpentine Summer Party. There, she and her high street look were joined by a thoroughly stylish crew: Thandie Newton, Mario Testino, Jade Jagger with mom Bianca in tow, Damien Hirst, Jacquetta Wheeler, Lily Collins, Pharrell Williams, Charlotte Dellal, and J.K. Rowling, who wore seven-inch gold Louboutins and magically dodged questions about her new look. Also cagey was model Erin O’Connor. “I am working on a book that I’m very excited about,” she confided, but remained schtum on the details. Well, considering the current state of celebrity affairs, we’ll take evasion over TMI.
