Rachel Comey Signs Up St. Vincent For Fashion Week
It’s a time-honored tradition to complain about the weather, and this sodden summer has seen New Yorkers waving their fists at the sky with particular gusto. Not Rachel Comey, though. The designer has channeled her agita about the rain, rain, and more rain into fashion, emphasizing wet-weather gear in her upcoming Spring collection. “I guess if it rains at the show, I’m ready,” says Comey. “I’ve got long raincoats, short ones, dressy ones, casual…” Comey better have a few extra of those on hand: Her show on the 9th is taking place on a West Chelsea rooftop, and inasmuch as Annie Clark—a.k.a. St. Vincent—is playing, the place is sure to be packed to the gills. “We met through friends, and it turned out she was already wearing my clothes,” explains Comey of the St. Vincent collaboration. “We’re pretty aligned aesthetically, so it kind of made sense to do something together.” Comey confesses that she’s still figuring out what, exactly, St. Vincent is going to do. “She’ll be playing solo during the show, I know,” she says, “but song-wise I’m not sure yet. Maybe some covers, I’m thinking.” May we suggest “Purple Rain”?
