What They’ll Be Wearing In Dallas This Fall

August 17, 2009  4:15 pm

Now that everyone has fall shopping on the brain (OK, some of us at Style.com formed our wish lists way back at the February shows), we’re checking in with forward-thinking boutiques across the country to see what labels and must-have items are already moving. First up is V.O.D., a year-old Dallas boutique helmed by fashion journalist Jackie Bolin and her partners Liz Thompson and Elizabeth O’Mahoney. The name is a reference to Valley of the Dolls, but don’t expect any marabou trim here—the trio stocks the downtown shop with a mix of edgy Parisian labels like Jasmine Di Milo and Anne Valérie Hash, Magda Berliner’s vintage-inspired frocks, and local favorites, including hometown gal Erin Wasson’s line for RVCA.

Any items with wait lists?

JB: Shredded tees by Raquel Allegra, Jasmine Di Milo’s lace blazer, Isabel Marant studded suede booties, and her leopard-spot rabbit coat. We also have a wait list for the Three Dots jumpsuit from the new collection designed by Dallas native Pegah Anvarian.

What do you anticipate will be your biggest sellers?

JB: Our Zero + Maria Cornejo client comes back for more each season, and we can’t keep Isabel Marant runway looks on the floor for too long. Erin Wasson x RVCA will fly out the door—particularly the “If You Ain’t Cowboy” T-shirt. This is her hometown and she has major fans.

How are shoppers buying differently now than they were a year ago?

JB: We’ve only been open a little over a year, but our customer is always thoughtful about her purchases and wants pieces she loves and can keep forever. That may be a $125 eighties snakeskin belt from Archivevintage.com (with whom we collaborate exclusively in our small designer vintage section) or a $1,000 crochet dress by Jeremy Laing.

Which new lines are you excited about?

JB: Veda leather jackets because they’re so cool and well priced, R13 denim, and Arielle de Pinto jewelry. Also, this will be our first fall with SARTEL, which is an exquisitely chic collection from Dallasite Matthew Earnest and Lily Atherton Hanbury that we’re crazy about.

Is there anything you saw on the runway that you knew you had to have?

JB: Too much! Alexander Wang’s belted leather jacket, Vanessa Bruno’s tall leather knee boots, Jenni Kayne’s blue suede shoes, Jeremy Laing’s lapis funnel dress…
