Yea, Nay, Or Eh: The Kaiser’s Beach Attire
August 12, 2009 4:26 pm
Karl Lagerfeld stepped out in Saint-Tropez yesterday (avec entourage, bien sur) looking decidedly more covered than the average vacationer. Now, we’re not saying the Kaiser should go full Speedo on us—ahem, Giorgio Armani—but a tightly buttoned shirt, heavy boots, and leather gloves? Is this a bit too extreme for August on the Côte d’Azur or is Karl just the ultimate fashionisto?

Use to love him and now start to fell sorry for the man. He looks like a mummy.
By ameliedidier1 on 08/12/09 at 6:20 pmNo, you’re right, it’s too heavy, But that’s Karl. Loosen up? No way!
By davidanna on 08/12/09 at 6:28 pmIs that model Freja Beha Erichsen behind Karl? Do you have more photos where she is actually visible?
By Valentine_Cordier on 08/12/09 at 7:48 pmI think Karl should do as he pleases. I love the fact that he could care less about the “rules” of fashion. Viva la Karl! XO JS
By jrseguin on 08/12/09 at 8:05 pmKarl loves the “armour” his clothes give him. Millennium Teutonic, n’est pas?
By Screengem on 08/13/09 at 2:09 amThat’s Karl. He couldn’t (and shouldn’t) dress any other way.
By opinion on 08/13/09 at 4:06 amExcept maybe for the boots, but who am I…
Surprising that I too shared the same thought on my blog yesterday http://fashionfifthavenue.blogspot.com/2009/08/karl-lagerfeld-in-saint-tropez-as-smug.html

By fashionpicks on 08/13/09 at 4:09 amHahaha Romney, yes it’s certainly a little bit to heavy for a summer in Saint Tropez in August. But he’s an extreme man and you and I know he never would go out on the streets of whatever city without his beloved leather gloves. And a fashionisto I certainly wouldn’t call him. Always the man in black and now for a few days in some brighter/lighter colors makes him not suddenly a fashionisto. He wears what he likes and thats good, everyone should to that. Be always yourself and be secure of yourself whatever piece you wear. Arriverderci
By Valerio on 08/13/09 at 4:22 amIt is a bit heavy! But, then again it is Karl…it is his trademark to dress like that!

By Emma59 on 08/13/09 at 5:04 amHe’s perfect. I mean, he’s totally beached it up: swapped black for white all over the place. And really, does anybody imagine he’s actually going to put bum to sand? I think not. And why not wear the boots? Though I hesitate to mention it, does anyone really wanna see Karl Lagerfeld’s toenails?
By shawanda on 08/13/09 at 10:17 amI wouldn’t see him dressed any other way. Nothing but love here for KL <3
By flightofthedreamer on 08/13/09 at 11:03 amtotally agree with davidanna… Karl will always be Karl
By paty1505 on 08/14/09 at 1:21 amThere’s something fabulously chic, eccentric, and camp about The Kaiser. He could wear a fur coat on the Côte d’Azur in August, and it would be fine with me!
By JohnAgee on 08/15/09 at 4:07 amWhat’s interesting is that he doesn’t seem to be breaking a sweat! So, maybe not for him. And the gloves? He has to wear them everywhere: he’s germ phobic (Mysophobia). He’s fabulous, tho’.
