Blasblog: All Tavi, All The Time

September 13, 2009  8:33 pm

Between the dreary weather and an audience that prefers black and leather over all else, more than one person commented on the funereal feeling at Alexander Wang’s show yesterday afternoon. Julia Restoin-Roitfeld in a black leather jacket, Jen Brill with her thick black locks in her face, Harley Viera-Newton in dark bondage, Shala Monroque in white tights and a dark skirtsuit: From my vantage point, it could’ve been the chicest memorial that had ever taken place. And then along came Tavi, the 13-year-old blogger extraordinaire. In a little headpiece that she herself had strapped together with some cardboard and ribbon, she proved that you didn’t have to be dressed like a dominatrix to look cool (Wang proved this a few minutes later on his runway, with his marled gray sweatshirt knits and brown leather). She even gives good quote: “I love an obnoxious headpiece,” she said, smiling, when someone asked about her headwear. Liya Kebede (who was also in a black leather bomber) clocked Tavi when she realized this was the same little lady who was on the cover of the new Pop magazine: “I wasn’t on a cover of a magazine until my twenties,” she joked. “Not that it’s a competition or anything.”
