Change of Season Might Change Your Shopping Life

September 16, 2009  3:11 pm

“The East Village doesn’t need another vintage store,” says Marco Querci, who tonight opens new boutique Change of Season. Instead, Querci and his partner Clinton Curtis created a whole new retail beast: the curated outlet. As anyone who’s spent a draining day at Woodbury Commons can attest, saving money on clothes can be a major investment in time and energy. “I love to go to Century 21,” says Querci. “But I need to go at eight in the morning and then take a day off to rest.” Querci, an accessories designer who worked for Lanvin and now wields his trade at Banana Republic, has a long fashion career and connections in his native Italy, where most COS stock is bought. “It’s more experimental and dressy,” says Querci of their ethos. “And no denim. Even if it’s Acne for Lanvin.” Their roster is a fashion person’s dream: Marni, Martin Margiela, Rick Owens, Balenciaga, Vivienne Westwood Red Label, Dries Van Noten—all 50 to 70 percent off full price. They’ll also carry jewelry and artisanal shoes. And their location might just come with a built-in clientele. Agyness Deyn lives nearby.
