Jeggings, An Update

September 1, 2009  2:55 pm

The blogs have been cracking jokes about jeggings all summer. I’m here to tell you that the look isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The denim makers exhibiting their spring wares at the ENK and Project tradeshows in Las Vegas this week are banking on super-stretchy skinnies as the next huge trend. J Brand’s Susie Crippen showed off faded ultra-lightweight jeans she passed off as leggings. At AG they offered rinse-wash versions with a stretchy pull-on waistband, and all the girls manning Hudson’s booth were wearing black leggings with five-pocket detailing and a zip fly, which they swore were the most comfortable pants ever. Coming for Fall ‘10: denim pajamas?

  1. I bought my AG jeggings a month ago and I really like them. I am suprised at the negative criticism. The thing that I like the most about them is not that they are comfortable (and they are) but that they fit like a real tight pair of jeans. Jeggins would ONLY suck if they were made from regular cotton, legging material that LOOKED like jeans.

  3. Current Elliott has been making these “jeggings” for the past few seasons and I love the way it fits- especially the cropped legging with long zipper (Rihanna rocked it the other day). The best part is that these leggings look like skinny jeans minus the negative repercussions on the circulation system. :)

  4. Ideally they sound ok, but I am beginning to think that these tight jeans are not good for women. Prolonged wear of tight clothing, particularly pants, can contribute to yeast infections! And who wants to put up with that?

  5. Maybe I have a hybrid pair, bought last winter: skinny jean cut in dark, soft, lightweight cotton denim with lots of lycra. Comfortable enough to wear on an airplane and retain their shape. One catch, ya have to wear a longer top, hands down. So jeggings can be worn in the right context. Like any fashion trend, there will be the good, the bad and the ugly interpretations.
