Remembering The Aughties

September 4, 2009  1:06 pm

As the decade draws to a close, it seems fair to wonder: What was aughts fashion? What was memorable? What will embarass us when we look back at photos twenty, thirty years hence? What was significant, in that it changed the way we shop or dress? Another magazine’s forthcoming issue takes a stab at the question of what’s mattered, fashion-wise, since the turn of the millennium, pulling pieces from the archives and pairing 28 celebs with key designers in order to create images that celebrate, in editor-in-chief Jefferson Hack’s words, “how far fashion and design have come.” Another has given Style.com a sneak peek behind the scenes at the shoots—Chloë Sevigny in Miu Miu, Courtney Love turned out in Givenchy Haute Couture, both Olsen twins taking on Calvin Klein Collection, and more. What do you think we’ll remember about the ’00s? What would you prefer to forget?

  1. I’d say the biggest legacy was the online revolution (that’s you Style.com) along with the high-low mix. Also, the stylist-as-celebrity and the It bag/shoe/dress. Would be nice to see the back of sons-and-daughters-of-celebs and see more genuine talent but I fear that’s a long way off…

  2. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are amazing fashion icons, I would love to see more of them. http://crty.tv/standout/

  3. It will be hard to have an idea of our era until a bit of time has elapsed. What should be extremely interesting is to gauge the effect technology has had. The internet may have been born in the 90’s, but it truly came of age in this decade, and it will leave a mark that we could barely have conceived of only a few years ago.
