Sass & Bide Bling It On

September 20, 2009  7:15 pm

“We are so happy to be in London,” said Sass & Bide’s Sarah-Jane Clarke. “It feels very right to be here.” At their show in a derelict old dairy in Russell Square, guests like Yasmin Sewell, Kimberly Stewart, Paloma Faith, Alison Mosshart of The Kills, and Twiggy (along with her entire family) cheered from the front row as models strutted down the runway trailing an armada of bling. For their tenth anniversary, the Aussie duo stuck to the Sass & Bide script: (volume top, fringes, etc.), but the showstopper was a pair of leggings called Afterworld Tights—which had more hardware dripping from them than a shelf at Home Depot. “Exactly who is going to wear those things?” we wondered. “Hmm, you got me stumped there,” said Clarke. “I like it when different girls wear our things, it’s interesting for us to see how they interpret the look. Not that there will be much choice—there is only one of them in production, and we don’t want to start a catfight.” That’s when Twiggy said, “Why don’t I take them? That will end the debate right there.”
