The Ladies Love Dries
“I’m not officially part of the fashion world, but I like clothes a lot,” Maggie Gyllenhaal said modestly at a lunch honoring Dries Van Noten, the man behind her wedding gown and many of her red-carpet dresses. “Dries really teaches me about what’s sexy and what’s beautiful and what’s unusual,” the actress told us. “Sometimes I think he knows what looks [better] on me than I do.” The soft-spoken Belgian designer was in town to receive the Couture Council of the Museum at FIT’s 2009 Artistry of Fashion award. “I’m amazed every time I come to New York. I love the energy that comes from the city’s mixture,” the designer said. Cipriani was packed with the likes of Iman, Amanda Hearst, and Fabiola Beracasa. Jamee Gregory won a torn taffeta coat in the raffle and Daphne Guinness was seen whipping a bottle of her new perfume out of an exotic bag to give a reporter a whiff.
