The September Issue Goes West

Heat wave aside, fall was in the air at Tuesday night’s L.A. premiere of R.J. Cutler’s The September Issue, which drew fashion fans such as Ginnifer Goodwin, Perrey Reeves, Kelly Rowland, Jennifer Morrison, and Sanaa Lathan. “It’s great to be home and show the film to my friends, family, and the filmmaking team,” said director and producer Cutler, who just returned from a month on the road promoting the film. “We were such outsiders to the fashion world, but we were eventually embraced.” LACMA’s Bing Theater was the site of the special screening (the film opens in L.A. on Friday) and post-film courtyard reception, which benefited the museum. As guests nibbled on hors d’oeuvres and sipped wine, all the talk turned to the documentary’s breakout star, Vogue creative director Grace Coddington. “Even guys who don’t care about fashion relate to Grace,” added Cutler. “We all have a boss.”
