Announcing Fashion’s Night Out, Take Two
September 9, 2010, may seem like a long, long way off, but Mayor Bloomberg, Vogue, the CFDA, and NYC & Company want you to save the date. That evening, stores across the city’s five boroughs and around the world will re-create the success of this year’s first-ever Fashion’s Night Out, which saw no less than 800 New York City stores stay open until 11 p.m. and a reported 50 percent increase in retail foot traffic. (In case you missed it the first time around, model-turned-photographer Astrid Muñoz captured some of the action for Style.com here.) “The numbers are in, and it’s clear that Fashion’s Night Out was a tremendous success,” said Mayor Bloomberg. The CFDA’s Diane von Furstenberg added that “to have designers in stores to celebrate and start a shopping season is the best idea for everybody.” Our only question is, how do you top Barbara Walters, Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Oscar de la Renta singing a cappella in the designer’s Madison Avenue store?

There might have been a 50% increase in footfall but what about the sales? Did people buy anything or was it the “candies” and the free booze that drove the people into the stores?

Well, it ain’t the candy makers that stage the rerun! [little secret: it ain't nothing like a crowd of gawkers to shame one into actually spilling coin]
The whole concept of free booze is to leave a lasting impression, and open your wallet to spend more than you may have wanted to spend :-)

I’m still kicking myself for missing the first one!
