Gwyneth Paltrow: The Next Celebrity Designer?

October 28, 2009  3:07 pm

Valentino Garavani’s “farewell tour” has been as epic as anything Barbra Streisand could dream up, and judging by last night’s DVD signing of Valentino: The Last Emperor, the retired designer is still pulling in the crowds. Daphne Guinness, Molly Sims, Michelle Trachtenberg, Zac Posen, and Anja Rubik all turned out to see Valentino and Giancarlo Giammetti at a party hosted by Gwyneth Paltrow and accessories designer Bruce Hoeksema at the latter’s posh VBH digs on Madison Avenue.

In a immaculate pinstripe suit, Valentino seemed to enjoy catching up with the fashion set, but now that he’s had a taste of film, could a director’s move be on the horizon? The tanned fashion icon waved off the idea of going behind the camera. “I just enjoy my life now. I love walking my dogs. I took a walk with them today. For every step I take, they take two!” As for Matt Tyrnauer’s documentary, Paltrow and Hoeksema agreed that it was spot-on. “It really shows the love, the complication and fire, and also creativity,” the actress said. The evening raised $4,270 from sales of the autographed DVDs for the Robin Hood Foundation, where she is a board member. Paltrow is fresh off a collaboration with Zoe Tee’s for another charitable cause, so perhaps it’ll be she who takes up a new career and tries the designer reins? “Maybe,” the actress said. “I never say never.”
