Kimberly Ovitz Will Return To New York, Hints At Expansion

October 15, 2009  10:34 am

“It was huge for me,” says Kimberly Ovitz of her first time showing in New York last month. “It was that moment that I’ve been working up to my entire life. I felt like I finally had arrived.” The Los Angeles-based designer pulled the whole thing off at the last minute, snagging stylist Britt Bardo, who pulled all-nighters hammering spikes into the models’ vertiginous heels while Ovitz herself was busy spray-painting bales of hay electric silver. The latter coordinated with one standout piece, a lust-worthy draped metallic leather jacket (pictured at left), a venture into somewhat uncharted territory for the designer. “I don’t usually rock metallics,” she explains. “But I made it so that anyone can wear it.” Another Spring standout was a floor-length caftan dress emblazoned with a horse graphic, a more overt expression of her perennial equestrian motif. You only have to look to the street style blogs to see what girls love from Fall. More than one photog snapped Lauren Santo Domingo in Ovitz’ ribbed knit minidress. The up-and-comer is now strategically eyeing her future, which she coolly hints may include menswear and a jewelry collaboration. (Possibly with Pamela Love, who showed on the same day as Ovitz at Milk Studios?) Nevertheless, the Angelena will definitely be back in the Big Apple come February. She says, “The results far exceeded my expectations.”
