She and Herr: Rodebjer’s Mood Film

October 14, 2009  3:17 pm

“Sometimes I want to communicate a mood or mental state quietly, without the actual garments,” says Carin Rodebjer, explaining her collaboration with director Mattias Montero on an art film, Herr Rodebjer, that premieres exclusively on Style.com. Montero, who’s currently shooting with Snoop Dogg, has worked with fellow Swede Lykke Li and is responsible for Bat for Lashes’ acclaimed “What’s a Girl to Do” music video.

Herr Rodebjer is the first of a series of collaborations the Swedish designer plans to roll out seasonally on her two-month-old Web site. “I pick people I relate to,” says Rodebjer, who is known for the kind of hip sportswear that makes Stockholm girls look effortlessly chic. Why, then, a men’s movie (herr is Swedish for mister) for a womenswear designer? Attribute that to artistic freedom—and the fact that Rodebjer will slowly add menswear as a category over the coming seasons. The film received the Public Prize at the A Shaded View on Fashion Film festival in Paris. Pas mal, mister.
