Blasblog: Giant Book, Giant Party

November 16, 2009  1:54 pm

Miuccia Prada was in L.A. this weekend for MOCA’s anniversary, but she still found time to squeeze in her own party on Friday night. Mrs. Prada hosted a fête at her Rodeo Drive store for the recently published Prada encyclopedia, a hefty 708-page tome that charts the brand’s trajectory from its founding in the twenties as a briefcase firm to its current perch at the height of fashion. This being the case, most of L.A. came out to, as Mario Testino put it, “pay homage to the Church of Miuccia.” Christina Ricci, Chloë Sevigny, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jessica Alba, and fellow Euro Carine Roitfeld were just some of the familiar faces at one of the grandest store parties I’ve ever been to. Not that I should be shocked by the scale of the three-story Prada-fest; as Alba told me, “Everything is bigger out here.” The evening even managed to coax out one of Lala’s most reticent (really!): Rachel Zoe. “I only go out in L.A. when the people from New York and Europe are in town,” she said of her Friday night itinerary, which also included a dinner at Juicy Couture’s Pamela Skaist-Levy’s house and a repeat cabaret performance from Hamish Bowles. “So I’m sure everyone just thinks I go out all the time.”
