Born Lippy

November 25, 2009  11:00 am

In Jade Jagger’s new collection for her namesake jewelry line, one motif stands out: the “lip” shape in necklaces and rings, which put us in mind of another famous Jagger (or, now that half-sister Georgia is pouting for the camera, two). So was Dad cool with it? “I was just going to slip that by him, but hey, it’s not like we sit around and design by family committee,” Jagger says. “My design colleague came up with the initial plan, originally for T-shirts, and we just went with it. It seemed well, no pun intended, a tongue-in-lip take on my dad’s logo.”

Her new store, which opens this Friday, may be in a slightly dodgy bit of Notting Hill, but as Jagger shrugs: “All Saints Street is on the front lines of Notting Hill. Tom [Dixon, design luminary] started out here and it just seemed right.” It will stock her jewelry, her art (she illustrates each design before she creates it), and her clothing line. They’re all very rock ‘n’ roll, but Jagger’s been indulging her stiff-upper-lip side, too: She clued us in that she’s still involved with Garrard, the historic (and formerly Royal Warrant-holding) London jeweler, where she was formerly creative director: “They’ve kept me on to do a collection called Made in Jade.” Punk or posh, in other words, there will be something for everyone—which fits, since just about everyone in London, from mum and dad to Kate Moss to half-brother Jimmy Jagger, who manned the DJ booth, hit her party later this evening.

  1. I’ve always loved the Rolling Stones logo so I know I’ll love the designs, but the best part for me would be to own both the piece and the sketch, so cool.

  2. Are the pieces one of a kind? [so that only one corresponds to a sketch?]
