Yea, Nay, Or Eh: Mendes Misses A Button

November 9, 2009  1:52 pm

What happens when a noted Latina siren tries on the uniform of a celebrated Latina designer? Eva Mendes put her spin on the trademark look of Carolina Herrera (the envy-inducing crisp-and-chic tailored white dress shirt and polished black slacks she wears for every runway bow) for the NYC premiere of Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. Mendes is undeniably smokin’, but we sort of wish she’d shown some Herrera-esque restraint and left a little more to the imagination. Ingenuity is always welcome on the red carpet—cocktail dresses can get so snoozy—but this look could have benefited from a clever support system. What do you think of Mendes’ sophisticated attempt? Leave your comments below.

Update: Mendes is wearing a white shirt and a ruched taffeta skirt from Donna Karan’s pre-spring 2010 collection, but, either way, we still think she needs a bra.

  1. honestly, it looks like an inner office affair… a mess of a men’s dress shirt meets twisted suit, she can do better, and too much cleavage.. lets be classy and leave more to the imagination.

  2. I agree that it would have been more on point with a little more restraint, but it is stylish and unexpected which I like. Also, “revealing” seems to be her signature, and she can pull it off, so - GREAT!

  3. You’re totally right I have only one remark she missed two buttons. She don’t have to show her bosom to all people in this world, she could be more discrete in wearing a shirt of whatever designer. This wasnt very clever of her, but who cares about that? It seems to me that actressess and starlets, celebs etc are nowadays more interested in showing more nudity then to take care of their movies or whatever. They like the words as long as they talk about me, if it’s worse or good, I’m in the picture and can earn some money. What they don’t see is that they make themselfs sometimes rediculous, with the for them adorable fashion style they wear. For real fashion people it’s a disgusting thing how some of the celebs etc are chosen their ‘outfits’ and what they dare to wear at special events. It has everything to do with being fashionable, have a style of your own and above all be sophisticated and trendy. The celebs of today have a great lack of style and hire stylists, but even they make very often big mistakes. You can se it almost every day, arrivederci

  4. I’m surprised by this, because I don’t think of her as being “revealing.”
rather, more ladylike. She definitely is in need of a button!

  8. Thank God this wasn’t me!

Is is that recession has made roles hard to come by for actresses what with production houses coming down heavily on the number of movies made, that actresses are compelled to up their glam quotient to ridiculous heights? I guess Eva is still in her Calvin Klein billboard mood!
