Christian Cota’s Cups Runneth Over

December 2, 2009  2:56 pm

The most wonderful time of the year? Ha! Holidays, as we all know, are the most multitaskingest time of the year. E-browsing while on conference calls. Booking travel while baking cookies. Squeezing in visits to the gym between shopping for the New Year’s dress you’re hoping to squeeze into. Thank goodness, at least, for libation. There was plenty of wine, for example, at the multitasking holiday party thrown last night by Christian Cota. The designer was ticking several to-dos off his list with the fête—launching his first holiday collection, which includes the dress above and is available exclusively through his Web site; introducing e-commerce on that site; and kicking off a collaboration with the nonprofit Wine to Water, purveyor of the aforementioned wine.

Doc Hendley—the founder of Wine to Water, who was recently anointed one of this year’s”Heroes” by CNN—was on hand to celebrate the debut of the $60 tee Cota has designed to raise funds for the organization, which leverages vino into clean water for communities in the developing world. “I saw something about Doc on CNN and was really moved,” explained Cota of his involvement with Wine to Water. That involvement quickly became multidimensional: Along with the benefit T-shirt, Cota will donate 25 percent of the profits from sales of his holiday collection to the group. He is also working with Hendley to set up a Wine to Water initiative in rural Mexico. (Cota is from Mexico City.) “I want to help however I can,” Cota said. “I’ve put Doc together with Taittinger, which sponsors my shows, so they can work on distribution for his wines, too.” Way to multitask.
