They’re already designing chic homewares for the social set, but Ankasa’s husband-and-wife team Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia now want to hit their customers’ wardrobes, too. They introduced the ready-to-wear floor of their Upper East Side store with a cocktail party last night. The breezy silk tops with intricate Indian embroidery and beading are lovely, and plans are in place for cocktail dresses for next fall. That’s a lot on the plate for an up-and-coming design team, but good luck has always followed the Ahluwalias—even before they both had the same last name. “We met on the third day of school,” Sachin said of their days as students at New York’s FIT. “My mom was just so happy,” Babi piped in. “She was, like, ‘You met a straight Indian boy in fashion school?’ “
