The Best Gig In Town

The Standard’s ultra-chic 18th-floor bar (which will likely be known as the Boom Boom Room until the day it dies) is now a live-music venue. Singer Sasha Lazard became the space’s first official performer last night when she turned a corner platform into a stage for herself and a handful of musical collaborators and treated guests (including P. Diddy) to a program that encompassed everything from jazz standards to piano pop to opera-flavored world music.
“When I came here for opening night, I was so blown away by the aesthetic of this place. I had an immediate fantasy about performing here,” said Lazard, whose recent gigs have been at Joe’s Pub, the National Arts Club, and private events for Bulgari and Louis Vuitton.
Standard owner André Balazs invited her to perform after catching her at one of her regular salon nights. Lazard, who was concealing her nearly four-month pregnancy last night under a tulle Luisa Beccaria dress, will be singing or curating similar acts on a monthly basis.
That works for Diddy, who walked in near the tail end of the show. “It was beautiful,” he said from his corner alcove. “We’re on top of the world, baby!”
