There’s Gold In Them Colorado Hills

December 16, 2009  10:55 am

Jewelry designer Alyssa Norton has got a whole new bag. Several of them, in fact. Norton scooped up a handful of chain-mail evening bags from the twenties when she was in Colorado last month, and she’s been furiously working them over ever since, adding extra-long straps in her signature braided silk and embellishing with vintage rhinestones. The results are available now, via www.alyssanorton.com, and mark Norton’s first foray into bag design. “It’s sort of a late-breaking holiday collection,” she notes, “as well as being an experiment in expansion. I’ve thought for a while that bags would be the logical next thing, and I’ve always loved that twenties style.” Insofar as the vintage bags are hard to find at a reasonable price, Norton anticipates making her own drawstring pouches to work off of as she continues to develop the range. In the meantime, she reports that she lucked into enough of the vintage styles in Colorado that she’ll be including versions (all one of a kind) in her Fall ‘10 collection, as well.
