Vintage Reborn (Just In Time For Christmas)

Everybody has one: the friend on your gift list with a closet full of amazing clothes, all the latest gadgets, and the best coffee-table books to flip through. This is the Person Who Has Everything—a.k.a. Public Enemy No. 1 of the holiday season. If you’ve been putting off the hunt for their present in the vain hope something perfect would fall into your lap, now it has. Korean model Hyoni Kang—along with her partners, Aeri, a stylist, and J., a photographer and Vogue Korea’s New York editor—throws open the doors today to the Soho-based vintage-redesign shop Reborn Process. After scouring antique fairs and flea markets across the country, the trio has cut and customized the finds for a modern touch, shearing sleeves, adding buttons and details, and tricking out even basic finds with chains, fur, and feathers. The resulting one-of-a-kind wares work with any wardrobe, whether you’re a collector or a novice. “I like vintage, but I don’t want to wear it head to toe,” Kang explained. “I love the idea of mixing older pieces with new items for a fresh look.” For her part, the catwalker—and frequent street-style subject—will model Reborn Process threads styled her way on the store’s e-commerce site, launching Wednesday.
