Yea, Nay, or Eh?: Back to the Boho

December 22, 2009  5:13 pm

The Olsens spearheaded several of the big trends of the aughts—so much so that we couldn’t even imagine the decade in style without them—but few looks got more press (or inspired more imitators) than Mary-Kate’s billowing boho layers. As the years went by, both she and sister Ashley polished their looks to suit their new status as real (not celebrity!) designers on the make, but on a recent coffee run, MK revived a style from the vault. With her motorcycle jacket; flowing scarf; and long, shin-skimming coat, she’s a blast from the fashion past. We’d object, but well, no one can make a layered look work like this girl can. What do you think: Is boho-chic one of the actress’ greatest hits, or a style to retire?

Plus: Check out more of the sisters’ looks in our Decade in Olsens.

  1. I love the effortless feel of this style and I say there is no need to retire it. An update is all that is needed - a more scultpured boot and some sharp shoulders paired with the touseled hair and loose layers would make for a strikingly on trend combination.

  3. Everything the twins are doing or wearing is already seen before. They mix certain styles and make it their own, but I wonder if they’re creative enough to do something of their own? An complete new style with heartbreaking details and an tailoring which will surprise most of the real designers and the fashion journalists. And about if Boho style is retiring, I don’t think so, just as a lot of other styles, they make always a comeback in one way or an other. Ciao

  5. The style is to retire but just not yet! Olsens (or someone else) must give us some gold street chic before we give up to dearest boho chic.
