An Open Letter To The Leatherheads

January 25, 2010  11:57 am

As a man in a (largely) girl’s game, there are always going to be some trends that I can’t get in on. I thought—with some relief, I must admit—that the leather tees that have been sending editrixes into a swoon lately would be another of those I’d be observing from the sidelines. Sure, the leather shirts at Celine and 3.1 Phillip Lim are kinda great, but I’m worried that they may send my female colleagues into an actual swoon—I’m betting it gets pretty hot and sweaty in one of those. Well, ladies, if you can manage them, I doff my cap to you. And gentlemen, the weekend’s Margiela men’s presentation in Paris proved that the well-thermoregulated among us can get in on the fun, too: The house showed leather tees for dudes, coming this fall. Me, I’m sticking with cotton. But if you do take the skin plunge, allow me this brief plea. Boys, girls: Right Guard.
