Bianca Vs. Jerry: The (Shoe) Showdown

Necessity, the mother of invention. One reason L.A.-based designer Geren Lockhart, the creative director of Geren Ford, decided to launch shoes this season, she admits a bit bashfully, is that she wanted more pairs for herself. “Of course, there was more to it than that,” she says. “I mean, it seems like shoes have gotten insanely expensive over the past few years, and I felt like the girl who shops my line was probably feeling like a lot of the styles that appealed to her were out of reach.”
The five-style Spring ‘10 capsule collection, accordingly, tops out at $398 for the riveted platform Biancas; on the low end, two sandal styles come in at about $200 apiece. (Personally, we love the leather Jerry heels, pictured; it’s a battle of the Mick exes!) The shoes will be available next month on the Geren Ford Web site [http://www.gerenford.com], and an expanded collection—including a zip-off, four-styles-in-one boot that will be shown at the label’s presentation in New York in February—is in the works for Fall. Farther down the line, Lockhart says she’s hoping to introduce bags and small leather goods, too. “It’s kind of the same situation,” she explains. “I’m constantly on the move, so I have the need for something cool and practical myself.” Lucky us.
