Catherine Malandrino Goes Global, Name-Checks Tavi

Catherine Malandrino’s feeling footloose for pre-fall: She dubbed her collection “iGypsy” and took the occasion to show pieces from the lower-priced Catherine Malandrino line. “I wanted it to be about a modern, everyday wardrobe,” she explained of the silk jersey dresses, airy bouclé sweater coats, and washed leather jackets on display. A sense of ease tied the pieces together, which are all designed to segue from day to night—not to mention from continent to continent—for the globe-trotting girl who plucks outfits from a suitcase. As for the title? Unlike some industry heavyweights, this designer is firmly in favor of digital media’s increasing influence on the fashion world. “I read all the blogs,” Malandrino said, among them Garance Doré and the ubiquitous Tavi. “I think it’s important to have influences from all over, and I like that these sites are so creative and self-expressive. It makes your own imagination work in different ways.”

This is a very….creative collection. I’m not sure that I would be able to wear any of the pieces above, though there is something very appealing about the breeziness of it all. It’s very flowy, and i like that. Thanks for the post!
