No Gisele? For Brazil’s Fashion Weeks, No Problem

-------

The blogs are buzzing with the news that Gisele—arguably Brazil’s top model ever—sat out the country’s fashion weeks for a little family time in Boston. (From the beaches of Rio to Back Bay, what a long, strange trip it’s been.) But of course, Brazil has no shortage of modeling superstars, and the catwalks of São Paulo, which wraps today, have been chockablock with them. Caroline Ribeiro, Isabeli Fontana, and Ana Paula Araujo all took their turns, Alessandra Ambrosio stood in for the absent Bündchen at the popular Colcci show, and rising insider favorites Wanessa Milhomem and Lais Ribeiro suggested the country’s model magic is in no danger of wearing off anytime soon. Homecoming is fun, but has its occasional pitfalls, too. “I love being back,” said Daiane Conterato, whom we caught up with mid-popsicle outside the Iodice show. “But I always need to remind myself during São Paolo fashion week,” she murmured conspiratorially, “that if I gossip to my friends in Portuguese here, everyone around me will understand!”
