The Nominations Are In!

January 26, 2010  1:24 pm

No, not the Oscars—sorry, for those you’ll have to wait until next Tuesday. But almost as important to the style-obsessed are the Costume Designers Guild Awards, which will be held on February 25. The prizes honor outstanding costuming for television, movies, and commercials, both in contemporary and period settings. Many of the noms come as no surprise—yes, there’s Nine, Mad Men, Grey Gardens, and, of course, Coco Before Chanel (above)—but we’re glad to see some underpraised works on there, too. Among them: HBO’s The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency (for its gorgeous use of African textiles and fabrics), Crazy Heart (for its dusty, country-on-the-skids jeans and Stetsons), and—don’t laugh—Brüno. All together, now: Ach, ja!
