Yea, Nay, Or Eh? Cate Blanchett, Lady In Red

-------

Cate Blanchett is one of the all-time greats when it comes to red-carpet style. She usually nails it (we’ll look past the ill-received gold fringed Balenciaga gown worn at the 2007 Costume Institute Gala), even at events that are not exactly high-profile. For the 30th anniversary of SKII skincare in Tokyo, the actress—who is also a brand ambassador—wore a scarlet Alberta Ferretti shift with beaded shoulders, which she accessorized with a neat teased ‘do. Judging by images of other honorees in similarly hued frocks, the color might have been a requirement. We think the entire look is tough-chic done right. What about you? Is there another red dress you would have picked for her instead?

Uh, that met ball dress was amazing, what’re you talking about?

It’s a gorgeous shade and she is owning that look. Cate Blanchett is riding the trend wave admirably (strong shoulders are everywhere and red’s the color of the moment).

And unlike so many others, she doesn’t have to pretend she’s warm and dress in spring/summer clothing in the middle of winter.

Lastly, that hint of darker stocking at her upper thigh is dead sexy.

Nailed it. She is so chic and elegant. I love everything about this very risky look and she manages to pull it off so effortlessly with such class & style, I really don’t know of another person alive who could do it this well.

The support stockings peaking out the slit don’t add much to the allure.

The dress is great, the peek of control top pantyhose -NOT!

I love the dress, the makeup and the hair, but the shoes and stocking, ugh…

Love it. Needs to switch out the hosiery for something seamless, tho…

“though-chic” is not what the brand is about, right?
if this is about her face (SK-II) the guys who do the ad’s might have done a better job, maybe suggesting a dress in the color of bottega veneta’s last fall collection… or else a white t-shirt.
