Blasblog: The Alices Convene For A London Screening

-------

We should have seen this one coming a mile away: Alice in Wonderland serving as the muse for Alice Temperley’s new lower-priced line, Alice. “Are you kidding? I have loved her my whole life, and not just because we have the same name,” Temperley sighed at the Soho Hotel in London, where she was hosting an advance screening of Tim Burton’s new film adaptation. “When I was a kid, I had all the special-edition books, and would play Alice in the forests.” And the elder Alice’s line couldn’t have found a better poster girl: “She is the ultimate heroine,” the designer added, “full of fancy and imagination.”

Personally speaking, I couldn’t have been more pleased that Temperley organized this screening. I always feel special when I see a film before it’s in theaters, and more importantly, taking in a film in the hotel’s basement theater meant I would have two uninterrupted hours, sans cell-phone reception or fashion-week small talk. After the film, over cocktails, Temperley’s husband, Lars von Bennigsen, tried to figure out which character he would be. I suggested the Mad Hatter, but after some thought, he decided on the Caterpillar. But it was a third, pint-size Alice who was the screening’s best-dressed: Lila Grace Moss, who came with her dad, Jefferson Hack (her mom is Kate M.), in her very own Alice costume.
