Hamilton Comes Home

-------

Tim Hamilton has been missed. The designer has been showing in Paris these past few seasons, and he’s gearing up for another women’s show in the City of Lights next month, but he was definitely feeling the love from a hometown crowd at his Tim Hamilton Redux presentation at MAC & Milk last night. “It’s good to be home,” he admitted, going on to explain that the response to the Redux invitation was so overwhelming, the presentation had to be extended by an hour. There are pleasures to be had in the comfort zone, in other words, and Hamilton readily acknowledged that that holds true for the design of Redux, the line that began as a small range of basics (well, Hamiltonian basics, at least) culled from his own archive and has expanded this season into a full collection (and one at a lower price point). “I’m playing with ideas I’ve already kind of established,” he explained. “Try a new fabric, mess with a silhouette…” To wit: The Redux baseball jacket has metallic sleeves; a turtleneck tunic zigzags with panels of Hamilton’s signature stripes; an extra-long hoodie is now made in crinkly, cobalt blue nylon. “I get to have fun,” Hamilton smiled. The fun continued later that night, at the bar under the new Marcel Hotel in Gramercy Park. “It’s like he’s turning 21,” joked a Hamilton staffer. “Now he can drink.”
