Mind Your P’s And G’s

February 12, 2010  11:35 am

Glove-maker Daniel Storto got in touch with Prabal Gurung through Facebook. “He said that he loved what I do, and wanted to see if we could work on something together,” the Nepalese designer told me at a Fall preview yesterday morning. The feeling was mutual, and the results of their collaboration—hand-stitched black leather gloves forming a P and a G—will appear at Gurung’s first-ever runway show tomorrow. Yes, they’re 100 percent wearable; the curving sleeves twist asymmetrically around the models’ wrists and lower arms like gauntlets. They also provide a clue about his Fall collection. Gurung would rather not reveal too much, but we can say this: He found inspiration where he lives, on Third Street in the East Village. Any guesses? Let us know below.
