And The Nominees Are…

February 2, 2010  9:08 am

Forgive Hollywood for looking bleary-eyed this morning: The whole town’s been up since around 5 a.m. for the 2010 Academy Award nominations. Anne Hathaway and Academy president Tom Sherak made the official announcements shortly before 6 a.m. Pacific time, and the race for the gold is officially on. (As Best Actress nominee Gabourey Sidibe told an interviewer, “I’ve been avoiding the Oscar question for a year, and now I can talk about it!” Her mom’s advice—”act like a serious 26-year-old”—didn’t preclude a joyous yelp of “O.M.G.!”)

A few surprises are sprinkled throughout—Maggie Gyllenhaal got the nod for Best Supporting Actress for Crazy Heart, edging out Marion Cotillard in Nine, and we for one will be thrilled to see her prominently on the red carpet this March—and the new, ten-nominee list for Best Picture means that some deserving but otherwise unlikely candidates are up for the top prize. (Is it wrong that we’re kinda rooting for District 9 for Best Picture?) Check out the nominees below and sound off in the comments.
