You Glow, Boy

Before we even discuss Tokyo/Glow, the new short film featuring The Generic Man’s footwear, GM co-founder Kevin Carney wants to make something very clear: “This wasn’t a fashion commercial. It was really something more figurative, more for you to take what you want from it.” Makes sense to us. Most fashion commercials aren’t currently being considered for film festivals worldwide, and they don’t reference Andreas Gursky’s large-format photographs. But Tokyo/Glow, directed by Jonathan Bensimon for Canada’s Bravo TV and prominently featuring The Generic Man’s Naval laceup, isn’t the usual fashion film. Shot over two days in Tokyo, it’s a thumping light show and hypnotic spectacle all at once. And, yes, it happens to include some pretty cool shoes. Style.com has the exclusive debut, below.
