Blasblog: O Canada!
Since landing in Toronto on a balmy, sunny Monday morning, I’ve learned quite a few things about our neighbors to the north. For one, Canada ain’t that far away—from my apartment in New York to my hotel room, door-to-door service was two hours. It’s pretty close in style, too, and when it comes to their wardrobes, Canadians don’t mess around. Suzanne Rogers, the queen of Toronto’s fashion scene, hosted a little cocktail party for my book—in six-inch stilettos and a Christopher Kane gingham dress straight off the runway. And the night after that warm welcome, I hit a cocktail party for Jason Wu (pictured, left, with Rogers) at The Room, the high-end department of The Bay, Toronto’s most famous shopping mecca (it’s been in business for more than three centuries!). Rogers was my tablemate again at the celebratory three-course dinner following the fête at L.A.B. (that stands for Live and Breathe—I’ve also noticed they love a pun and an acronym in this town). Sitting next to the guest of honor, I picked up a few fun facts about Wu himself to supplement all my newfound Canadian knowledge. He was born in Taiwan, grew up in Canada, and went to boarding school in Connecticut. Forget just dressing Michelle Obama, this guy is ambassador material!
