Maria Cornejo Debuts Swimwear Just In Time For Memorial Day

Like most women, Zero designer Maria Cornejo has had some trouble over the years finding a swimsuit that’s well designed, flattering, and practical. What’s a designer to do but design them herself? This week, Cornejo’s first swimsuits debut—first at a private event Thursday night, then on sale to the public Friday—just in time for beach season. The eagle-eyed may recognize some of the pieces from the label’s Fall ‘10 show, where bikini tops were shown as layering pieces with skirts and trousers. But here, Style.com’s got your first peek at the suits as they’re destined to be worn on the shoreline. “The biggest challenge was having to get creative with very specific small areas of the body and fabric,” Cornejo said of her first attempt at swim. “I’m used to the opposite. But I love the beach and spend as much time as possible by the water, and I hadn’t found a swimsuit that I really loved. So…” Problem solved.
