On Our Radar: Jason Nevikov Tees
Ever since we posted our most recent Get the Look feature, I’ve been thinking about graphic tees. (My colleague Marina, who’s been wearing her favorite A.P.C. tee recently, may also have something to do with it.) Brooklyn designer Jason Nevikov has been making punk rock-inspired tees for a few seasons, most of which have a geometric, Peter Saville-for-Joy Division vibe. He hasn’t lost that—there’s a “Brooklyn Hardcore” shirt in his Spring collection, after all—but he’s glossed it up a bit, too. I love his Yves Saint Laurent T-shirt, a cartoon version of the famous YSL shot in a loopy, sinuous line. (Call me crazy, but there’s a little Al Hirschfeld about it, no?) Is Saint Laurent at odds with the rip-it-up rocker aesthetic? Nah. For all the finesse, the guy was, after all, one of fashion’s original rule-breaking punks.
