The Swarovski Nominees Bring The Sparkle
The CFDA’s Swarovski Awards for emerging talent don’t just bring their nominees recognition and industry respect—they also bring them a whole bunch of Swarovski crystals. The nine designers nominated for the award this year (three each for womenswear, menswear, and accessories) each designed a custom, crystal-encrusted piece for a one-off capsule collection, and nominees Joseph Altuzarra, Prabal Gurung, Simon Spurr, and Dana Lorenz were on hand this morning to unveil them in the the 57th Street windows of Bergdorf Goodman. The award ceremony’s fast approaching, but Altuzarra, for one, was unfazed. “I don’t succumb to the hysteria,” he told us with enviable Zen. For his piece, he covered the arm of a slim black blazer in faceted black gems (above, center). It made for a chic companion piece to Spurr’s peak-lapelled tuxedo jacket, with blink-or-you’ll-miss-it crystal embellishments near the shoulder (above, center). There was no missing the spray of gems that covered Gurung’s asymmetrical white cocktail dress (above, right>, but the designer’s got interiors as well as fashion on his mind. Between working on his next collection and getting ready for the June 7 awards ceremony, he’s settling into his CFDA-sponsored Incubator studio space. Soon to come? A couch.
