Yea, Nay, Or Eh? Maternity Style We Can Get Behind

May 28, 2010  12:24 pm

It’s been a packed week in London, which has hosted the Sex and the City ladies, the National Movie Awards, and, last night, Alicia Keys, who had hosting duties of her own at the Keep a Child Alive Black Ball. The R&B chanteuse opted for custom Dolce & Gabbana for the event, which raised money for orphaned children. The bubble-skirted Dolce gown is an over-the-top choice, but one that Keys pulls off nicely. She counterbalanced the flounce with very little jewelry and understated hair and makeup, letting the dress command the attention. Bonus points for the killer studded-and-sparkled Louboutin pumps, which add a little glam-rock edge, and for that as-yet-unseen accessory: the baby bump. Keys confirmed last night that she’s engaged to producer Swizz Beats, and pregnant with the couple’s first child.

  3. the dress is gorgeous, and looks gorgeous on ms. alicia keys - i racked my brains and the archives to guess this one, and guessed everything except the obvious, since dolce & gabbana’s style has (superficially) changed rather in the last two seasons ! ! if you go back a little further, you can find inspriation for this custom dress, e.g., on raquel zimmerman for spring 2008, http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/slideshow/S2008RTW-DGABBANA?event=show1622&designer=design_house251&trend=&iphoto=52, isabeli fontana and jessica stam, spring 2009, http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/slideshow/S2009RTW-DGABBANA?event=show1862&designer=design_house251&trend=&iphoto=57, http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/slideshow/S2009RTW-DGABBANA?loop=0&event=show1862&designer=design_house251&iphoto=55&play=false&cnt=3, and also in these gorgeous couture outfits from chanel spring 2010, on sophie srej, http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/slideshow/S2010CTR-CHANEL?loop=0&event=show2042&designer=design_house22&iphoto=59&play=false&cnt=3, and lara stone,

  4. What a covetable stunner!

… the maternity side is invisibe, but who cares? That dress makes up for allot of cares. Wonderful.

  5. Apparently this woman can do no wrong. As far as understated hair and makeup, she’s done up within an inch of her life. Mutton dressed as lamb I say! Actually, that dress could probably be sheared and made into a smart jumper.
