Yea, Nay, or Eh? Venus Williams Can Cancan

At the French Open this weekend, Venus Williams scored an easy win over her opponent, Switzerland’s Patty Schnyder. But victory on the field of fashion didn’t come quite so easily. Venus played in a lace-embellished bustier-style dress from her own line, EleVen. Maybe it was the Paris setting, but the dress smacks of the Moulin Rouge, and not, we’d have to say, in the best possible way. Short even for tennis togs (see left for proof) and disconcertingly at odds with Venus’ athletic figure, the whole outfit feels like a bit of a non to us. Venus told the L.A. Times that her look was “about illusion,” which is “a lot of my motif this year.” What do you think? Is this an illusion worth seeing?

La Repubblica (Italian newspaper) published a serie of photo’s from her during that game. The comments on that serie of photo’s are devastating for her. If this is from her own collection she has he very bad taste. That’s the overall conclusion of the readers/viewers and also mine opinion. So I can be short this illusion isn’t worth to see.

i agree it’s just silly and excessive, but she is a brilliant athlete, and probably (hopefully) wasn’t trying to be in Vogue – the outfit itself (top half) and colors are quite sharp – i was assuming that only messrs. karl lagerfeld or jeal-paul gaultier (or john galliano) might be so bold, but fortunately they weren’t \,,/ twitter

Worth seeing. Can-can corsets may have never been worn this way, and may never be again. If anyone could add a new note to this style, who else? There may be a few names, but not that many. A sports corset has a story, for sure.

she gets it, Fierce. The issue with VR is her dominance and sister SR in tennis. It is not what she wears-but performance, I hope to see it in white at Wimbledon
